Daniel Kwan is an American filmmaker. He is part of the writing/directing duo known as Daniels, along with Daniel Scheinert. They won the Academy Award for Best Director for Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022). They wrote the film, for which they also won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. The two also wrote and directed Swiss Army Man, and a segment of Omniboat: A Fast Boat Fantasia; as well as the music videos “Don’t Stop (Color on the Walls),” “Simple Song,” “Houdini” (2012), “Turn Down for What,” and “Tongues,” and episodes of the show NTSF:SD:SUV::.

He was born in Pennsylvania, and raised in Westborough, Massachusetts. Daniel is married to filmmaker and animator Kirsten Lepore, with whom he has one child.

Daniel has said:

My dad’s family is from Hong Kong; my mom’s family is from Taiwan. [Going to my grandparents’] house on my dad’s side was kind of [chaotic] because I don’t understand Cantonese at all. It really did feel like we could never fully communicate with each other because my mom was trying to translate between us…
