Christy Mathewson was an American professional baseball player. He was a right-handed pitcher. He played 17 seasons with the New York Giants, of MLB. He was nicknamed “Big Six,” “The Christian Gentleman,” “Matty,” and “The Gentleman’s Hurler.”

Christy was the son of Minerva Isabella and Gilbert Bailey Mathewson. His brother was professional baseball player Henry Mathewson. He was married to Jane, with whom he had a son. Christy was a devout Christian.
