Mary Astor was an American actress. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for The Great Lie (1941).

Her father, Otto Ludwig Wilhelm Langhanke, was German. Her mother, Helen (Vasconcells), was of Portuguese and English descent. She had one child with her former husband Franklyn Thorpe, and one child with her former husband, Mexican film editor Manuel del Campo. Mary was married to film director and producer Kenneth Hawks, until his death. Kenneth was the brother of film director and screenwriter Howard Hawks.

Mary’s paternal grandfather was named Carl Langhanke.

Mary’s paternal grandmother was named Elise Charlotte Rieckermann (the daughter of Jacob Rieckermann). Elise was born in Berlin, Germany. Jacob was the son of Dorthea.

Mary’s maternal grandfather was Frank Quintal Vasconcells (the son of Joaquim Francisco De Vasconcellos and Maria Quintal). Frank was born in Illinois, to Portuguese parents, with his father being from Viseu District. Joaquim was the son of Joze Francisco De Vasconcellos and Rozalia Maria Do Carmo.

Mary’s maternal grandmother was Anna Lincoln Dunbrack (the daughter of Charles Hill Dunbrack and Elizabeth E. Pierson). Anna was born in Illinois.
