Buck Showalter is an American professional baseball manager, player, and television analyst. He is the manager of the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB), and, previously, the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers, and Baltimore Orioles. He has worked as a commentator for ESPN and the YES Network.

Buck is the son of Linda and William Showalter, who was a high school teacher and principal, and had played college football. He was raised in Century, Florida. He is married to Angela, with whom he has two children.

Buck’s paternal grandfather was William Nathaniel Showalter (the son of Nathaniel Pryor Showalter and Mary Lou/Louise “Manie” Roberts). William was born in Virginia. Buck’s great-grandfather Nathaniel was the son of David Halderman Showalter and Sarah/Sallie Pryor Taylor. Mary Louise was the daughter of Josiah H. Roberts and Lucy Rowlett.

Buck’s paternal grandmother was Sarah Lura Malinda St. Clair (the daughter of Samuel L. St. Clair and Joanna “Josie”/Josephine Cecil). Lura was born in Virginia. Samuel was the son of Charles R. St. Clair and Mary A. Boyd. Josephine was the daughter of Gordon Cecil and Malinda Shufflebarger.

Buck’s maternal grandfather was Willie/William Gregor Spires (the son of William Noah Spires and Marena Sighter). Willie was born in Lexington, South Carolina, the son of William Andrew Spires and Louisa Ellender Taylor. Marena was born in South Carolina, the daughter of George Washington Sighter and Caroline Bachman.

Buck’s maternal grandmother was Charlotte C. Sturkie (the daughter of Joseph Franklin Sturkie and Caroline Farrow). Joseph was born in South Carolina, the son of Richard Benjamin Sturkie and Jerushia Rushey Jeffcoat.
