Alan Keyes is an American conservative political activist, author, diplomat, and politician. He served as Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs, from November 13, 1985 to November 17, 1987.

He was the America’s Independent Party’s nominee for President of the United States in 2008. He was also a candidate for the Republican Party’s nomination for President of the United States in 1996, 2000, and 2008, and for the Constitution Party’s nomination for President of the United States in 2008.

Alan is the son of Gerthina Alease (Quick) and Allison Lester Keyes. His father was born in Maryland and his mother was born in North Carolina. He is married to Jocelyn Marcel Keyes. Among their three children is social and political activist Maya Keyes.

Alan’s paternal grandfather was named Sterling Keyes (the son of Henry Keyes and Annie). Sterling was born in Maryland.
