Robert Borden was a Canadian lawyer and politician. He served as the eighth Prime Minister of Canada, from October 10, 1911 to July 10, 1920. His party membership was Liberal (1867-1891), then Conservative (1891-1917), then Unionist (1917-1922), and then Conservative again (1922-1937). He was a Member of Parliament for Halifax (NS), from June 23, 1896 to November 2, 1904, for Carleton (ON), from February 4, 1905 to January 25, 1909, again for Halifax, from October 26, 1908 to December 16, 1917, and for Kings (NS), from December 17, 1917 to July 1920.

Prime Minister Borden was the son of Eunice Jane (Laird) and Andrew Borden. He had ancestry on both sides of his family leading back to English immigrants to Colonial America, specifically Massachusetts and Connecticut, in the 1600s. He was married to Laura (Bond) Borden.

Prime Minister Borden’s paternal grandfather was Perry Borden, Jr. (the son of Perry Borden, Sr. and Mary Ells/Ellis). Prime Minister Borden’s grandfather Perry was born in Cornwallis, Kings, Nova Scotia, to American parents. Prime Minister Borden’s great-grandfather Perry was born in Tiverton, Newport, Rhode Island, the son of Samuel Borden and Peace Mumford. Mary was born in Stafford, Tolland, Connecticut, the daughter of Joshua Ells/Ellis and Mary Bill.

Prime Minister Borden’s paternal grandmother was named Lavinia/Lavina Fuller (the daughter of Timothy Fuller and Elizabeth). Lavinia was born in Horton, Nova Scotia.

Prime Minister Borden’s maternal grandfather was John Laird (who likely was the son of Robert Leard and Jane Palmer). John was born in Horton Landing, Kings, Nova Scotia. Robert was born in Ireland.

Prime Minister Borden’s maternal grandmother was Julia Lathrop (the daughter of John Lathrop and Eunice Denison). Prime Minister Borden’s great-grandfather John Lathrop was born in New Haven, Connecticut, U.S., the son of Benjamin Lathrop/Lothrop and Mercy/Mary Baker. Eunice was the daughter of prominent soldier and political figure Robert Denison, who was from Stonington, New London, Connecticut, and of Prudence Sherman.
