Greta Van Susteren is an American commentator, lawyer, and television news anchor. She has hosted the show The Record with Greta van Susteren since 2022. She previously hosted the shows On the Record w/ Greta Van Susteren, from 2002 to 2016, and For the Record with Greta, in 2017.

Greta is the daughter of Marjorie/Margery and Urban Van Susteren, an elected judge. She is the sister of Lise Van Susteren, a forensic psychiatrist, and Dirk Van Susteren, a journalist and editor of the Vermont Sunday magazine. Her father was of one half Dutch, one quarter German, and one quarter Luxembourgish, descent. Her mother was of Irish ancestry.

Greta is married to tort lawyer John P. Coale.

Greta’s paternal grandfather was Henri/Henry Boneventura/Boneventure van Susteren (the son of Jacobus Gerhard van Susteren and Mary Hocks/Hoks). Henri was born in Wisconsin, to Dutch parents. Jacobus was the son of Johannes Van Susteren, who was born in Cuijk, North Brabant, and of Petronella Bouwers.

Greta’s paternal grandmother was Mary Ann Blindauer (the daughter of Peter Blindauer and Susanne Gonnering). Mary Ann was born in Wisconsin, to a German father and a Luxembourgian mother. Peter was born in Greimerath, Bezirk, Trier, Rheinland, Prussia, the son of Michael Blindauer and Margaretha Zimmer. Susan was born in Colbette, Echternach, the daughter of William Gonnering and Elizabeth Susan Peters.

Greta’s maternal grandfather was Michael Patrick Conway (the son of Patrick Conway and Bridget Quinn). Michael was of Irish descent.

Greta’s maternal grandmother was Elizabeth Delaney (the daughter of Charles Delaney and Margaret Mulaney). Elizabeth was of Irish descent.
