Al is the son of Teresa and Carlo “Charles” Di Meola. His mother was born in Italy, near Naples, and emigrated to the United States at thirteen years old. Al was raised in Bergenfield, New Jersey.

Al’s paternal grandfather emigrated from Cerreto Sannita, Province of Benevento, Campania, Italy.
