Yogi Berra, or Lawrence Peter “Yogi” Berra, was an American professional baseball player, manager, and coach, and witspeaker. A catcher, he played nineteen seasons in Major League Baseball, mostly for the New York Yankees, as well as the New York Mets. He was manager of the New York Yankees and the New York Mets. He also coached both teams, as well as the Houston Astros.

Yogi was the son of Italian parents, Paolina/Pauline (Longoni) and Pietro “Pete” Berra. His father was from Malvaglio, near Milan, Lombard, northern Italy. Yogi was married to Carmen Short, until her death, with whom he had three children.

Yogi’s paternal grandmother’s surname was Torno. His paternal grandparents married in 1874.

Yogi’s maternal grandfather was named Giovanni Longoni.
