Yogi Berra was an American professional baseball catcher, manager, and coach. He played 19 seasons in Major League Baseball (1946–63, 1965), with all but the last being with the New York Yankees.

Yogi was the son of Italian parents, Paolina/Pauline (Longoni) and Pietro “Pete” Berra. His father was from Malvaglio, near Milan, northern Italy. Yogi was married to Carmen Short, until her death, with whom he had three children.

Yogi’s paternal grandmother’s surname was Torno. His paternal grandparents married in 1874.

Yogi’s maternal grandfather was named Giovanni Longoni.
