Stephen Carpenter is an American musician. He is the co-founder, and guitarist, of alternative metal band Deftones. He founded the band with Abe Cunningham and Chino Moreno. His first cousin, once removed, is vocalist Chuck Billy, lead vocalist of the band Testament. His maternal grandfather was the brother of Chuck’s mother.

Stephen’s maternal grandfather was Albert Lemus (the son of Sebastiano Lemus de Barajas and Angela Ramirez). Albert was born in Michoacan, Mexico.

Stephen’s maternal grandmother was Marcelina Valenzuela (the daughter of Albert Valenzuela and Librada Rodriguez). Marcelina was born in Illinois, to Mexican parents. Librada was born in Gomez Palacio, Durango, Mexico, the daughter of Librado Rodriguez and María Silvestre Cabrera.
