Ryan O’Connell is an American writer, actor, director, comedian, LGBTQ activist, and disability advocate. He is known for writing the book I’m Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves, which was adapted into the Netflix series Special. He has cerebral palsy.

Ryan’s paternal grandfather was Robert Hollis O’Connell (the son of William Thomas O’Connell and Caroline L. Terwilliger). Robert was born in Nebraska. William was born in either Nebraska or Indiana, the son of Daniel O’Connell and Alice M. Delaney. Caroline was born in Wisconsin, the daughter of Jerome Terwilliger and Mary Dorilla Powers.
