Ramón Novarro was a Mexican and American actor. He was a top box office star in the 1920s and 1930s, known for his “Latin Lover” persona.

Ramón was the son of Leonor Pérez Gavilán Guerrero and Dr. Mariano Nicolas Samaniego Siqueiros, a dentist. His family was upper-class, and their estate was called the “Garden of Eden.” The family moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1913, to escape the Mexican Revolution. He had roots in the Castilian town of Burgos. Ramón was a cousin of actresses Dolores del Río and Andrea Palma, and film director and screenwriter Julio Bracho. He was also known as Ramón Samaniego and Ramón Samaniegos.

Ramón’s paternal grandfather was Dr. Mariano Samaniego Delgado (the son of Florentino Samaniego and María Josefa de Jesús Delgado Ortiz). Mariano was born in Janos, Janos Municipality, Chihuahua, Mexico, and was a well-known physician in Juarez, as well as an interim governor for the State of Chihuahua and the first city councilman of El Paso, Texas. Florentino was the son of Bartholome De Samaniego Tazon and Manuela Del Castillo Llata. María Josefa was the daughter of Fernando Delgado García and Ana María Ortiz y Miera.

Ramón’s paternal grandmother was María Del Carmen Siqueiros Sarvide (the daughter of Leonardo Siqueiros Olea and María Ignacia Sarvide Banuela). Ramón’s grandmother María was born in Ocampo, Chihuahua, Mexico. Leonardo was the son of Felipe Siqueiros and María Loreto Olea. Ramón’s great-grandomother María Ignacia was the daughter of Nicolás Sarvide and Simona Banuela.
