Pete Maravich was an American professional basketball player. A shooting guard, he played with the Atlanta Hawks, the New Orleans/Utah Jazz, and the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was the all-time leading NCAA Division I scorer, with 3,667 points total, and an average of 44.2 points per game. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987. He was nicknamed “Pistol Pete.” He was 6′5″.

Pete was the son of Helen and Press Maravich (born Petar Maravich), a college and professional basketball coach. His father was head coach for Louisiana State University’s Tigers basketball team, for which Pete played. His paternal grandparents were from Drežnica, near Ogulin, now Croatia. Pete was raised in North Carolina and South Carolina. He was married to Jackie, until his death, with whom he had two children.

Pete’s paternal grandfather was named Vajo/Vojo/Vasil Marovic/Maravich.

Pete’s paternal grandmother was named Sara/Sarah Radulović/Radulovich.

Pete’s maternal grandfather was Nicholas/Nick Joseph Gravor (the son of Peter Gravor and Helen Kernich). Nicholas was born in Pennsylvania, to parents from the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Pete’s maternal grandmother was named Annie/Ann A. Miller. Annie was born in Pennsylvania.
