She has also recorded dance-pop, and utilizes an animated flow in her singing. She has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, and is known as the “Queen of Rap.”

Nicki was born Onika Tanya Maraj on Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago, the daughter of Carol (Daniel) and Robert Maraj, a financial executive. Her parents were both gospel singers. Her paternal grandfather, whose surname was Maraj, was of Indian-Trinidadian, from India, descent; her father was of Dougla background, a Caribbean term for a mix of Indian and African. It appears that the rest of her family is of African-Trinidadian ancestry. She has evidently also stated that her great-grandfather is Japanese. It is not clear if this is accurate.

Nicki was raised on Saint James initially, though her mother immigrated to New York City, U.S., and later brought Nicki and her brother over when Nicki was five, settling in Queens.

Nicki is married to Kenneth Petty, with whom she has a son.

    • Jade Hood says:

What are you talking about? Dominican isn’t a race its an ethnicity in which most are either biracial or black.. And your hair is different than most blacks? You sound really ignorant and just want to separate yourself from “other black people”

      • John 8:32 says:

In all honesty it doesn’t really matter where she’s from there’s actually only two types of people in the world… the first are Africans… and the rest are all descendants of Africans!!!

Just in case anyone has a problem with that I want you to go to YouTube and watch Journey of Man!!!

I agree with everything you said except for Dominican being one of your races. Correction that is not a race, there are only for races black, white, yellow, and red. Specifics, well black/ white are obvious, yellow skin is Asian and red skin in Native Americans. I will give you another ex: my race is black but I would not say; I am black, and american, american is a nation, such as Dominican Republic. So with that being said, you just put that you are black, white, indian.

Wait it’s not me saying it,Walter Neves of the university of Sao Paolo is .Google his name and it will take you to him. Also, and I’m just putting this out here, until now people thought native americans always looked like the ones you see in movies or t.v.However i forgot, they may not have changed color to long before white did, which is about 6000yrs ago,so who said those asians looked like todays asian.Because native americans don’t look like asians, and from these old pictures, natives weren’t red, they look black, now not all were that color,I don’t think.Howevr that might explain why, that some natives were hung and whites stating they thought he was a black man,yet again the natives could have been mixed with black

          • total23 says:

I Think The Natives That Looked Black Were The Natives From The Caribbean, South America, Central America Rather Than Canada And America Itself.

Not Saying That Native Americans Were Not Mixed With Black, But Some Of Them Could Have Been, For Example The Natives I Just Listed By Continent. After Watching That Journey To A Man Video On Youtube, I Come To Realize That All Ethnicity (East Asian/Indigenous, Caucasians, Indians!) All Were Once Black (Sanman People).

And I Learned That The Native Americans From America And Canada, Are Descendants Of The Chukchi People. Not Sure If All Of Them Are, But All I Know Is That The Navajo’s Are Descendant Of Them! Not Sure About The Native American From The Caribbean, South America, Central America

No I don’t think they were from the Caribbean, however we will never know. There are a lot of things coming to light now. They just found (I hate using this word:Negroid skeletal remains )in an native burial ground in The Caribbean, that are a 150yrs older than their supposed to be.This is pointing in the direction, that Africans visited the The Caribbeans before Columbus did. There were always stories about this going around. Now they’re still investigating,so we’ll see what happens
