She is really pretty!
guyana is a mixed country
Hello to all of you that seen to be stuck on MF’ D#@k.
She has said in interviews what her nationality is. {I don’t think that any of you were tuned in for that display}
I know that this conversation is old but I am dong a project on her. All of your answers are part right.
No one ever stated that she was born in Africa, but her fam is from Guyana and they immigrated to Canada, she was the only one who was born there.{info from http://WWW.hooked on that.com}
For you all to stop making your own incorrect statments about someones elses race read this interview from her between http://WWW.allthatsfab.com
ATF – No problem, so tell us a little bit about yourself. Where are you from? What’s your background?
MF – Well I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. I am Guyanese!
ATF- Oh wow, I didn’t see that. Yeah because I attended your showcase here at the Canal Room, and everyone including myself was trying to figure out what your race is.
MF – That is hilarious. Yeah I am mixed with Black, Indian, and Portuguese. But my family is Guyanese.
Now about where you are from or where born. My fam is all mixed up but that dont mean I have half of what they are. I am Black, white and two types of indian. Its a difference in what your fam is compared to you race.
There is a such thing as a white african person. You can be born in africa and still have the right to claim your race. YOU KNOW IT’S ONLY in the states that this seems to be a big deal.
Very intellente woman
I am white and was born in Canada. However, the rest of my family for like 4 generations were born in South africa. For my SAT and stuff like that can i say that i am African American as my ethnicity
Technically you are of European descent with ancestors who lived on the continent of Africa for some time. You could identify as African American the same way a person of African descent would identify as Asian American if they have ancestors who lived on the continent of Asia for some time.
Why is this so complicated… lol.. First of all she’s a Canadian whose parents are of Guyanese descent (Like me, big up :D)…
Let me educate you people: Guyana is a country in South America (NOTE: its in South America, NOT Africa), it is considered a Caribbean nation and not a Latin American country because of its cultural and historical as well as linguistic ties to the rest of the English speaking Caribbean (They speak a Creole english).
It is also a country comprised of people who are from many different ethnic backgrounds including: Black/African, Indian, Portuguese, Chinese, European, and Native (Amerindian).
There are a lot of people in Guyana of mixed ethnic heritage (myself included). Just from looking at her its obvious she is part Black and Indian.. maybe half Indian… (much like Nicki Minaj)
nevertheless, she’s a gorgeous woman and an immense talent…
Now that I’ve settled this you guys can stop bickering and just enjoy her music :P
