So even though melanie fiona was born in Canada. Her parents and roots traces back to the multi-cultural south american country of guyana, that is considered caribbean, because of its culture and heritage!

I think these social media sites should use the word black instead of african, because that confuse people. She’s not african! She’s mixed with black, portuguese, and indian from the beautiful country of guyana, which is located in south america. Guyana is in between brazil and venezuela. However, guyana is still considered to be caribbean, since they speak english and its culture is caribbean just like trinidad! Guyana is also a diverse nation with various races…People really need to read some more.

I do understand your concern about the African title, however the black title might not work either. On this site, people have shown to take great offense to that word. While others on here, only see African Americans as black.I mean no offense by this, but when I look at the (EthniConnect) part of the site, and see people saying,I’m cuban, dominican, and black,it makes me laugh.I’m trying to decipher what the black means. Now if the black means African American,I find that very strange, seeing that AA’s are just as diverse as any other group out there.

@fuzzybear44 everyone sees things differently..but first of all there are black people all over the world. I’m Caribbean by the way, mixed with indian and black. But when I hear the term African American I think of blacks born in American..When I hear the term African, I think of Blacks born in Africa. But I believe that blacks in the Caribbean and Latin America should be called just black triniadadian, black dominican, etc., because by putting afro behind the nationality make people think “Oh they’re african” when they are not. Caribbean culture and even latin culture, regardless of race is very different from African culture and African American culture too. Well to each its own. These are my views.
