Lee Harvey Oswald was U.S. Marine veteran, who killed U.S. President John F. Kennedy, and then police officer J. D. Tippit, on November 22, 1963. Two days after the assassination, Lee was fatally shot on live television, while in police custody, by local nightclub owner Jack Ruby.

Lee was the son of Marguerite Frances and Robert Edward Lee Oswald. He was married to Marina Prusakova, a Russian pharmacist, from 1961 to his death. The couple had two daughters. Lee met his wife after defecting to the Soviet Union. The following year, he returned with her to the U.S.

Lee’s paternal grandfather was William Maxwell Oswald (the son of Col. Thomas Hepworth Oswald, Jr. and Lucy Maria Hannah). William was born in Mississippi. Thomas was the son of Thomas Hepworth Oswald and Ann Maxwell. Lucy was the daughter of Luna.

Lee’s paternal grandmother was Mary Harvey (the daughter of David Henry/Harry Harvey and Mary Tonry/Tierney). Lee’s grandmother Mary was born in Louisiana. Henry was the son of David Harvey, who was Irish. Lee’s great-grandmother Mary was also Irish.
