Kim Dae-jung was a South Korean politician and activist. He served as the 8th President of South Korea, from 25 February, 1998 to 24 February, 2003. He was a member of the National Assembly, from 14 May, 1961 to 16 May, 1961 (Inje, Gangwon constituency), from 17 December, 1963 to 30 June, 1971 (Mokpo, South Jeolla constituency), from 1 July, 1971 to 17 October, 1972, and from 30 May, 1988 to 19 December, 1992 (both by proportional representation).

He was the son of Jang Su-geum and farmer Kim Un-sik. President Kim was married to Cha Yong-ae, until her death, and to Lee Hee-ho, until his death. He had two sons with Cha, and a son with Lee.

President Kim’s paternal grandfather was named Kim Sa-eon.

President Kim’s paternal grandmother was named Jang Dae-hak.
