John Stossel is an American television presenter, author, consumer journalist, and pundit. He was the host of the weekly news show Stossel on Fox News from 2009 to 2016.
He is the son of Anna Dora and Otto Ernst Stossel. His brother was physician and researcher Thomas P. Stossel, who discovered gelsolin and invented BioAegis technology estate. John is marreid to Ellen Abrams, with whom he has two children. His nephew is journalist and editor Scott Stossel.
His parents were Jewish emigrants from Germany. His father was born in Konstanz, Freiburg, Baden-Württemberg. His mother was born in Nuremberg, Middle Franconia, Bavaria. John’s parents joined a Congregationalist church in the U.S., and John was raised in that faith. As an adult, John re-embraced his Jewish heritage, and is married to a Jewish woman.
John’s paternal grandfather was Max Stossel (the son of Maurice Stossel and Antonia Delinar). Max was born in Nagyvárad, Hungary.
John’s maternal grandfather was Otto Manfred Tuchmann (the son of Friedrich “Fritz” Tuchmann and Karoline Obermeyer). Otto was born in Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany. Friedrich was born in Uehlfeld, the son of Salomon Tuchmann and Jette Reichenberger. Karoline was born in Fürth, the daughter of Isaac Obermeyer and Amalie Berolzheimer.
John’s maternal grandmother was Grete Dessauer (the daughter of Carl Dessauer and Berta Feistmann). Grete was born in Nuremberg, Middle Franconia, Bavaria, Germany. Carl was the son of Loeb Aron Dessauer and Gretchen Dessauer. Berta was the daughter of Moses Moritz Feistmann and Emilie Cohn.
