John Houseman was a British and American actor and producer of theatre, film, and television. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for The Paper Chase (1973).

He was born in Bucharest, Romania. His father, Georges Haussmann, was an Alsatian Jew. His mother, May (Davies), was British, with Welsh and Irish ancestry. He was raised in England and moved to the United States in 1925, settling in New York City. He was married to Joan Courtney, until his death, with whom he had two children.

John’s paternal grandfather was Jacques Haussmann (the son of Isaac Haussmann and Catherine-Jeannette Meyer). Jacques was born in Fegersheim, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France. Isaac was the son of Macholem Abraham/Michel Haussmann and Boessel/Jeannette Weill.

John’s paternal grandmother was Berthe Waller (the daughter of Conrad Wahl/Waller and Sara “Julie” Bernheim). Berthe was born in Mulhouse, Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France. Conrad was the son of Abraham Wahl and Rebecca Isaac. Sara was the daughter of Félix Bernheim and Charlotte “Judith” Dreyfus.
