Hermione Gingold was a British actress. She was known for her drawling, deep voice.

She was the daughter of Kate Frances (Walter/Walters) and James Gingold, a stockbroker. Her parents were both Jewish. Her father was born in Austria. Hermione had two children, including stage director and “theatre in the round” pioneer Stephen Joseph, with her former husband, publisher and writer Michael Joseph.

Hermione’s paternal grandfather was named Moritz/Max/Maurice Gingold (the son of Moses Gingold and Jente). Moritz was born in Focșani, Județul Vrancea, Romania, to a Jewish family. He was a stockbroker.

Hermione’s paternal grandmother was Hermine Gute Sulzer (the daughter of Salomon Sulzer/Levi and Fanny/Francisca Hirschfeld/Levi). Hermione’s grandmother Hermine was born in Vienna, Austria. She was of Austrian Jewish and German Jewish descent. Salomon Sulzer was a famous hazzan (cantor) and composer, and was the son of Josef Jakob Sulzer/Levi and Fanny Mendelsohn/Levi. Fanny was the daughter of Carl/Karl Moses Hirschfeld/Levi and Jeanette/Schanet Rosenthal.

Hermione’s maternal grandfather was Morris Walter (the son of Lazarus Walter and Hannah Aaron). Morris was born in Spitalfields, Middlesex, England. Lazarus was born in Bavaria, Germany, the son of Naphtali Hirsh Walter.

Hermione’s maternal grandmother was Hester Moses (the daughter of Moses Moses and Elizabeth Levy). Hester was born in Cripplegate, Middlesex, England. Moses was the son of Aharon Moses. Elizabeth was the daughter of Issachar Behr Levy.
