Freida Pinto is an Indian actress and model. She rose to fame as Latika in her debut film, Slumdog Millionaire. Freida is the daughter of Sylvia, principal of St. John’s Universal School in Goregaon, and Frederick Pinto, a senior branch manager for the Bank of Baroda in Bandra, both in West Bombay. She had a middle class upbringing in Malad, North Bombay.
Freida was quoted in an article saying that she is of 100% Indian descent, of Mangalorean Catholic origin. Mangalorean Catholics are also known as Konkani people. Freida’s surname is Portuguese. Many Indians took Portuguese surnames from missionaries who converted them to Christianity.
Freida is married to American photographer Cory Tran, with whom she has a son.

her eyes are most definitely not a dark brown, they’re at least a medium brown, noticeably lighter than the average indians. as for hazel being greenish brown that is a north american misconception, the true/original definition of hazel eyes are eyes that resemble a hazelnut which is essentially light brown. going into detail of what actual hazel eyes are would be defined as light brown iris’ with tones of gold, orange and red throughout, and most of the time would contain minimal amounts of green when observed in strong lighting which is usually present in the iris to help create the golden hues, however obvious green is by no means a requirement for true hazel eyes. the first person to describe eyes as the colour hazel was by william shakespeare where he compared a womans eyes to the reddish brown colour of a ripe hazelnut and in europe the true definition is still used, for some reason in the past 100 years or so north americans have distorted the definition of hazel eyes to being green and brown or any multi-coloured iris and due to americanisation many countries are now adapting their misconceived definiton. the true colour of a persons iris is always the outer colour so if someones eyes are green with brown around the pupil then they come under the green category (a name you could use would be forest green or mixed green), hazel eyes are brown. a good example of celebrities with true hazel eyes would be catherine zeta jones, julia roberts and justin bieber.
Hazel been greenish brown is not just an American misconception. Most people I know use hazel to describe eyes with green and brown. Eyes that are fully brown has always been called just brown. It’s also commonly used in Britain and Ireland for brown/green eyes as well. Freida has brown eyes. Even very mixed eye colour with green, brown and blue can be called hazel. Hazel eye colour doesn’t have the same definition of hazel meaning light brown.

exactly andrew, charlize’s eyes are not hazel, they’re blue with gold around the pupil making them green. It has nothing to do with American. I’m Irish and my mother has eyes that she describes as hazel and they are multi-coloured eyes and that’s the definition used in Ireland. Any people with any shade of brown are always called brown. If you look up the definition of hazel eyes on the internet they are described as brown/green. Light brown eyes are not hazel eyes.

I’m not really that bothered about it. It seems to be more a passion for you. I was just explaining that it has nothing to do with Americans ideas about eye colour. It seems to be a universal explanation because it is used in Ireland and Australia as well. As I said previously I’ve never heard of “forest green” used for describing eye colour. You’re the only person I’ve heard use that description. Anyway knock your socks off it’s not really the main purpose of this site.
