Jacqueline Fernandez is a Sri Lankan actress and model. She works in the Bollywood film industry. She was crowned Miss Universe Sri Lanka in 2006.

Jacqueline was born in Manama, Bahrain, to an Eurasian family. Her father, Elroy Fernandez, is a Sri Lankan Burgher. Burghers are a local Eurasian ethnic group. Her mother, Kim, was born in Malaysia, to a Canadian father and a Chinese-Malaysian mother. Her paternal great-grandparents were from Goa, India. Jacqueline and her parents are pictured here. She is a cousin of journalist Frederica Jansz.

Jacqueline’s paternal grandfather was John Fernandez (the son of Salvador Manuel Fernandez and Mary Bridget Courtney). Salvador was the son of Salvador Fernandez and Jane. Mary was the daughter of James John Courtney.

Jacqueline’s paternal grandmother was named Muriel Blyth.

She has stated:

My dad is Sri Lankan and my mom is Malaysian. I was born and brought up in Bahrain and did my schooling there and university in Australia. My mom’s dad is Canadian and my great grandparents were from Goa in India. People in Sri Lanka with a European ancestry are called ‘Burghers’. So ctually I am a cocktail who looks quite Malay and am a ‘Burgher Sri Lankan’. My dad left Sri Lanka in the 80s as it was unsafe to live there because of the civil crisis… he moved to Bahrain where he fell in love with my mother, who was an airhostess at that time.
