Diana Gabaldon is an American author. She is known for her Outlander series of novels. Her father was teacher, principal, and Democratic Party politician Tony Gabaldon (Antonio Alfonso Gabaldon), who was an Arizona State Senator, from 1972 to 1988. Diana is married to Doug Watkins, with whom she has three children, including author Seth Sykes.

Diana’s paternal grandfather was Antonio José Gabaldon (the son of Patrocinio Gabaldon and Maria Antonia Castillo). Antonio was born in the New Mexico Territory. Patrocinio was born in the New Mexico Territory, the son of José Antonio Gabaldon and Maria Benigna de Jesus Chavez. Diana’s great-grandmother Maria was born in the New Mexico Territory, the daughter of Francisco Martin Pedro Castillo and Ana Maria Petronila Duran y Chaves.

Diana’s paternal grandmother was Maria Ines Chávez (the daughter of José Gregorio Patricio Chaves and Josefa Baca). Maria was born in the New Mexico Territory.
