Neil Peart was a Canadian percussionist, songwriter, and author. He was the drummer and primary lyricist of progessive rock band Rush. Other members of the band include/have included Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson. He was nicknamed “The Professor,” “Bubba,” and “Pratt.”

Neil was the son of Betty and Glen Ellwood Peart, a parts manager for a farm machinery dealer. He was initially raised on the family farm on Hagersville, Ontario, outside Hamilton, and moved to St. Catharines as a small child, and then Port Dalhousie. He became a U.S. citizen in the 2010s.

Neil was married to American photographer Carrie Nuttall, until his death. He had a daughter with his common-law-wife Jacqueline Taylor; and a daughter with Carrie.

Neil’s paternal grandfather was Emerson Wesley Peart (the son of Emerson S. Peart and Elizabeth L. Murray). Neil’s grandfather Emerson was born Oneida, Haldimand, Ontario. Neil’s great-grandfather Emerson was the son of Emerson Peart and Jane Hodgson/Hodgins, who were from County Durham, England. Elizabeth was the daughter of Scottish parents, Andrew Murray and Isabella Baird.

Neil’s paternal grandmother was Lena Louisa/Louise Lint (the daughter of Lewis Lint and Barbara Catherine/Catharine Otto). Lena was born Cayuga, Halimand, Ontario, of German descent. Lewis was the son of Lewis Lint, whose parents were German, and of Elizabeth Fry. Barbara was the daughter of Johann Andrew or Christian Otto and Barbara Braun, who were born in Germany.
