Clarisse Agbegnenou is a French-Togolese judoka. She won a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in the -63kg category, and was also the flagbearer for France at the opening ceremony.
Clarisse is the daughter of Pauline (Doni) and Victor Kossikouma Agbegnenou, a scientist and researcher, who studied in the USSR before moving to France. Her parents are from the Plateaux Region, Togo. Her father was born in Amoussa, a village close to the Ghanaian border. Her mother is from the village of Agadji. Clarisse holds dual citizenship.
She has a daughter with her partner Thomas Grava.
Clarisse’s maternal grandfather was a football player and the president of the Agadji football club. His father (Clarisse’s great-grandfather) was the king of the city of Atakpamé, Togo.
