Christopher Luxon is a New Zealand politician and business executive. He has served as Prime Minister of New Zealand, since 27 November, 2023. He has also been Leader of the National Party, since 30 November, 2021, Leader of the Opposition, from 30 November, 2021 to 27 November, 2023, and Minister for National Security and Intelligence, since 27 November, 2023; as well as, a Member of the New Zealand Parliament for Botany, since 17 October, 2020.

He is the son of Kathleen, a psychotherapist and counsellor, and Graham Luxon, a sales executive for Johnson & Johnson. When he was seven, his family moved to Howick, Auckland. He is married to Amanda, with whom he has two children.

Prime Minister Luxon’s paternal grandfather was Frederick Joseph Luxon (the son of William Henry Bridger Luxon and Margaret McKay). William was the son of English parents, Henry Bridger Luxon and Mary Elizabeth Hollow, who was from Cornwall.

Prime Minister Luxon’s paternal grandmother was Mary Joan Wilson Smith (the daughter of Charles Watson Smith and Margaret Ann Tait). Charles was English, the son of Moulds Smith and Mary Hairsine.

Prime Minister Luxon’s maternal grandfather was Herbert Irving Turnbull (the daughter of Robert Bruce Turnbull and Janet Morgan Irving). Herbert was born in Allanton, Otago. Robert was the son of Scottish parents, Sydney Turnbull and Catherine Armstrong. Janet was the daughter of Scottish parents, George Irving and Janet Brand McNie.

Prime Minister Luxon’s maternal grandmother was Mary Kathleen Clare Ryder (the daughter of Patrick Ryder and Mary Margaret Clare Leamy). Mary Kathleen was born in West Coast. Patrick was the son of Irish parents, Martin Ryder and Catherine Wall. Mary Margaret was the daughter of Thomas Leamy and Mary Walsh.
