They claim he lived in both Essex, England and Essex, Virginia, and this mix-up is where I assume the error is. Her father John Saunders was an African-American man born in Virginia, to Virginia-born parents.

Rebecca Blagmon was listed as having “light brown” skin on a Draft Card and being 5’8″ tall.

Article references the same joke he made about being “half white.” He probably is as African as Wanda Sykes, but his white ancestry is distant, as is hers.

No, I am not dumb, but you play like you are. You know many African-Americans have distant white ancestors and that admixture has added up over generations, hence Condoleezza Rice being 51% African but not having any recent white relatives. The same for Vanessa Williams and John Legend. The case is likely the same for Chris Brown. Why does this need to be explained? He is African-American and they are not “pure African.” They have varying degrees of usually European admixture, some more or less than others.
So spare me. He’s not “half white,” as he clearly joked, and as follers pointed out, he doesn’t have any white grandparents or great-grandparents. It is what it is. I don’t know why you insist on trying to make black Americans identify with anything other than ethnicity.
Worry about your own Italian ethnicity, which as also has admixture.
I cant access that site anymore but probably the “half white” joke was made because Chris has been mocked all over his young life to have a white mother by fellow African-Americans. Comparing him to Michael Jackson’s full white daughter Paris Jackson is very insulting. His mother is not white. He could have gotten teased by his darker-skinned kinfolk, but he’s still African-American. Get over it.

Chris mother may not be white in traditional sense but she looks close to a white woman more than anything in most pics I’ve seen of her. It’s common sense.
Chris brown is very black his mom is biracial and his father is very black. He is about 75 to 80 percent black. He claims he might have Native American in his genes but to be real it might be 1 or less than 1 percent or not at all. A lot of white and black people in America like to claim Native American when most in fact are not. He perms his 4a type hair. He is not mixed at all. If he is mixed then beyonce is mixed and Beyoncé’s mom is as mixed as Chris browns mom.

I think, given the context, he was probably joking. He definitely isn’t “half white” in the traditional sense. His grandparents, and, I think, all his great-grandparents as well, are black.
