Caitlin Clark is an American professional basketball player. She plays for the Indiana Fever of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), and was a college basketball player with the Iowa Hawkeyes. She is the NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer, a two-time national player of the year with the Hawkeyes, and the first women’s player to lead Division I in points and assists in one season; was Division I career and single-season leader in points and three-pointers; and has won three gold medals with the U.S. at the youth national level. She has been credited with helping popularize women’s college basketball. She is 6′0″.
Caitlin is the daughter of Anne, a marketing executive, and Brent Clark, a sales executive at Concentric International. Her father played college basketball and baseball.
Caitlin’s paternal grandfather was Dwaine Eugene Clark (the son of Albert Elmer Clark and Leola Anna Baumgardner). Albert was born in Iowa, the son of Arthur Earl Clark and Carrie Evelyne Chandler. Leola was born in Iowa, the daughter of Leon Lester Baumgardner and Kathrine Serena Daugaard, whose parents were Danish, her father from Bjert and her mother from Hejsager, Grarup sogn, Haderslev, Sønderjylland; and whose paternal grandfather was Swedish.
Caitlin’s paternal grandmother was Carole M. Baston (the daughter of William Henry Baston and Mariucia Capaldi).
Caitlin’s maternal grandfather was Robert “Bob” Izzi (the son of Elisho J. Nizzi and Gladys Loraine Ashby). Robert was a football coach for Dowling Catholic High School. Elisho was the son of Domenico A. Nizzi and Guiditta, who were Italian. Gladys was the daughter of Thomas Henry Ashby, whose parents were from England, and possibly Scotland; and of Minnie Louise Kurtz, who had German ancestry.
