Amy Poehler is an American actress, comedian, writer, director, and producer. She is known for her roles in the films Mean Girls, Mr. Woodcock, Baby Mama, Hamlet 2, Monsters vs. Aliens, Spring Breakdown, Inside Out, Sisters, The House, and Wine Country, television’s Saturday Night Live and Parks and Recreation, and in the Wet Hot American Summer franchise.

She is the daughter of Eileen Frances and William Grinstead Poehler. Her paternal grandfather was of half German and half Irish ancestry, and her paternal grandmother was of half Portuguese Azorean and half English descent. Her mother is of Irish ancestry, with roots in Cork and Sligo; as well as a small amount of Scottish descent. Amy’s brother is actor and comedian Greg Poehler. Amy has two children with her former husband, Canadian-born actor Will Arnett.

Amy’s paternal grandfather was Carl Poehler, Jr. (the son of Carl Poehler and Josephine F. Sweeney). Amy’s grandfather Carl was born in Massachusetts. Amy’s great-grandfather Carl was a German immigrant, the son of Oswald Frederick/Friedrich Paul Poehler and Julia Elizabeth Kampe/Kampf/Kamp. Josephine was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, the daughter of Joseph Sweeney and Lydia Feener, and had Irish and German ancestry.

Amy’s paternal grandmother was Anna Marie Andrews (the daughter of James S. Andrews and Elizabeth Adelaide Fisher). Anna was born in Massachusetts. James was the son of João/John S. Andrews and Anna Clementine Lopes, who were Portuguese emigrants, from Praia do Almoxarife, Faial, Azores, with the family surname originally being de Andrade. Elizabeth was the daughter of Eugene Bradford Fisher and Frances Catharine Baxendale, and had English ancestry.

Amy’s maternal grandfather was Stephen Michael “Steve” Milmore (the son of Stephen Michael Milmore and Anna/Annie G. Connearney/Connerney/Conneary/Connery). Amy’s grandfather Stephen was born in Watertown, Massachusetts. Amy’s great-grandfather Stephen was the son of Irish parents, J. Michael Milmore, who was from County Sligo, and Catherine McLaughlin/Welch. Anna was also the daughter of Irish parents, Michael Conneary/Connearney/Connerney and Julia Norton, who was from County Galway.

Amy’s maternal grandmother was Helen Marie MacDonald (the daughter of Roderick Francis McDonald/MacDonald and Sarah Ann Monahan). Helen was born in Watertown, Massachusetts. Roderick was the son of Colin Francis MacDonald and Sarah Ann Ring, who were from Nova Scotia, Canada; he had Irish and Scottish ancestry. Amy’s great-grandmother Sarah was the daughter of John Davis Monahan and Ellen/Nellie Maria Cokeley/Coakley, whose parents were Irish, with roots in Cork and Galway.
