Alex Wagner is an American journalist, political commentator, and author. She has hosted the show Alex Wagner Tonight since 2022. She previously hosted the shows Now with Alex Wagner from 2011 to 2015, and The Mole in 2022, and was a co-host on The Circus and CBS This Morning Saturday.

Alex is the daughter of Tin Swe Thant and Carl Wagner, a Democratic Party political consultant. Her father, who was from Lansing, Iowa, had Luxembourgish, German, and Irish ancestry. Her mother is a Burmese emigrant, from Rangoon, Myanmar. She left for the U.S. because of the country’s military dictatorship, with her own mother, in 1965.

Alex is married to political advisor, chef, and news personality Sam Kass, with whom she has two children. Sam was White House nutrition policy advisor and assistant chef.

Alex’s paternal great-grandfather was Henry Wagner. Henry was from Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg.
