Laura Regan is a Canadian actress.
Her father, Gerald Regan (Gerald Augustine Paul Regan), was a Liberal Party politician, who was Premier of Nova Scotia, from October 28, 1970 to October 5, 1978, and a Member of Parliament for Halifax, from April 8, 1963 to November 8, 1965, and again, from February 18, 1980 to September 4, 1984. She is the sister of Liberal Party politician Geoff Regan, who was Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, from December 12, 2003 to February 5, 2006, Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, from December 3, 2015 to December 5, 2019, and a Member of Parliament for Halifax West, from October 25, 1993 to June 2, 1997, and again, from November 27, 2000 to September 20, 2021; and of actress, journalist, news anchor, and television personality Nancy Regan.
Laura is married to Iranian-American screenwriter, producer, and director Farhad Safinia.
Laura’s paternal grandfather was Walter Edward Regan (the son of John Regan and Johanna Barbara Skerry). John was the son of James William Regan and Ann Barry, who were born in Cork, Ireland. Johanna was the daughter of John Skerry and Johanna Murray.
Laura’s paternal grandmother was Rose Marie/Mary Greene (the daughter of Thomas Barnaby Greene and Catherine/Kate Fewer). Thomas was the son of John Greene. Catherine was the daughter of Walter Fewer and Ann Dwyer/O’Dwyer.
Laura’s maternal grandfather was John Hornby Harrison (the son of W. H. Harrison and May Smith). John was born in Bradford, Yorkshire, England, and came to Canada in 1913. He was an agent, merchant, trader, and Liberal Party politician, who was a Member of Parliament for Meadow Lake (NS), from June 1949 to March 1958.
Laura’s maternal grandmother was named Margaret F. Thomas.
