Walter Koenig is an American actor, writer, teacher, and director. He is known for his role as Ensign Chekhov in the Star Trek universe.

He is the son of Sarah (Strauss) and Isadore “Irving” Naum Königsberg/Koenigsberg/Koenig. His parents were Jewish emigrants. His father was born in Lida, Belarus. His mother was born in Kaunas. He is married to Judy Levitt, with whom he has had two children, including actor and filmmaker Andrew Koenig.

Walter’s paternal grandfather was named Naum/Nakhemia Koenigsberg/Kenigsberg (the son of Berko Kenigsberg and Elka). Naum was born in Grodno, Belarus. Berko was the son of Yudel Leiba Kenigsberg and Feiga. Elka was the daughter of Faivel.

Walter’s paternal grandmother was named Golda Elya Orloff (the daughter of Vulf Orloff).

Walter’s maternal grandfather was Harris/Khonel Girsh Strauss/Strazh (the son of Shmuel Borukh Strazh and Mariashe Yoels). Harris was born in Kaunas. Shmuel was the son of Sholom Strazh. Mariashe was the daughter of Shmerel Yoels and Leya.
