If so, Tom’s paternal grandparents were Frank DiCillo, Sr. and Mary Valenti/Valente (the daughter of Domenic Valente and Maria Pacitto). Frank and Mary were Italian. Frank was from Ortonovo, Luni, province of La Spezia, Liguria region. Mary was from Sant’Apollinare, Italy.

Btw Di Cillo is a Southern Italian surname (as all the ones starting with Di/De), definitely not from Liguria.
Yes. Frank is originally from a place called “Ortanava”. Could it be Orta Nova, Apulia? Maria was definitely from a place called Sant’Appolinare.

Definitely “Orta Nova” -> Province of Foggia, Apulia

Sant’Apollinare must be this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sant%27Apollinare
There are Valente or Pacitto families in public records from that area
Maternal grandparents were John R. Putnam (the son of Laura E.) and Dorothy Brenner.

That wasn’t the right Barbara Putnam. She definitely wasn’t around 17 when she gave birth to him (i.e. the 1936 birth year on the wrong Barbara Putnam’s census).
Putnam seems to be a common surname
