Tod Slaughter was an English actor. He was known for starring in many English horror films of the 1930s, often set in the Victoria Era. His films include Maria Marten, or The Murder in the Red Barn; Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (1936), The Crimes of Stephen Hawke, Darby and Joan, It’s Never Too Late to Mend, The Song of the Road, The Ticket of Leave Man, Sexton Blake and the Hooded Terror, The Face at the Window, Crimes at the Dark House, The Curse of the Wraydons, The Greed of William Hart, King of the Underworld, and Murder at Scotland Yard.

Tod was the son of Mary/Marie Leishman (Broomhead) and William Carter Slaughter. He was married to Jenny Lynn, until his death.

Tod’s great-great-great-grandmother Margaret Cook was the sister of explorer, cartographer, and naval officer Sir James Cook (1728-1779), making James, Tod’s great-great-great-great-uncle.

Tod’s paternal grandfather was named William Slaughter. William was born in South Shields, Durham, England.
