Thomas Newman is an American composer. He is known for his many film scores.

Thomas is the son of Martha Louise (Montgomery), from Mississippi, and Alfred Newman, from Connecticut. His father was a prominent composer, in films. His brother, David Newman, sister, Maria Newman, uncles, Lionel Newman and Emil Newman, cousin, Randy Newman, and first cousin, once removed, Joey Newman, are/were all prominent composers and musicians, many of them working in film. Another first cousin, once removed, is film and television producer Eric Newman.

Thomas is married to Ann Marie, with whom he has three children.

Thomas’ paternal grandfather was Michael Nemorofsky/Newman (the son of Michael Nemorofsky and Luba Garofsky). Thomas’ grandfather Michael was a Jewish emigrant, who was born in Yelets, Gorod Yelets, Lipetsk Oblast, Russia.

Thomas’ paternal grandmother was Luba Koskoff/Kosakoff (the daughter of Yale Lewis Koskoff and Rossa Shapiro). Luba was a Jewish emigrant, who was born in Elisavetgrad, Russia. Rossa was the daughter of Sarah Kosinski.

Thomas’ maternal grandfather was William Robert “Billy B.”/”B. B.” Montgomery (the son of John Ormand Montgomery and Mary Frances Hamilton). William was born in Tennessee, and was of mostly Scottish and Scots-Irish/Northern Irish ancestry. John was the son of Robert “Robin” Montgomery and Margaret Pinckney Ormand. Mary was the daughter of William Hamilton and Elizabeth E. Wyatt.

Thomas’ maternal grandmother was named Marie/Mary Louise (Moss) Montgomery (the daughter of Dr. Thomas Rhodam/Rhodum Moss and Mary Louise “Lula” Parker). Thomas’ grandmother Louise was born in Tennessee, where she was raised in Dyersburg. She was a prominent poet, who was Poet Laureate of Mississippi. Thomas’ great-grandfather Thomas was the son of The Rev. John Hartwell Moss.
