Thom Tillis is an American politician. A Republican, he has been a U.S. Senator from North Carolina, since January 3, 2015. He has also been Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives, from January 26, 2011 to January 3, 2015.

Thom is the son of Margie and Thomas Raymond Tillis. His brother is politician Rick Tillis, who has been a Member of the Tennessee House of Representatives. He is married to Susan, with whom he has two children.

Thom’s paternal grandfather was Thomas Braxton Tillis (the son of John Henry Tillis and Luveia/Vinnie Carver). Tom’s grandfather Thomas was born in Florida.

Thom’s paternal grandmother was Ivy/Ivey Lilly/Lily Sadler/Saddler (the daughter of Thomas Barton Sadler and Martha L. “Mattie” Sapp). Thomas was the son of William Henry Sadler and Sarah Henrietta Gunter.
