Stephen Curry, also known as Steph Curry, is an American professional basketball player. A point guard, he plays for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is regarded as one of the greatest players ever. He is one of the record-setting Splash Brothers basketball duo, with Klay Thompson.
Stephen is the son of Sonya Alicia (Adams), a volleyball player and educator, and Dell Curry (Wardell Stephen Curry), an NBA player, who played with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Charlotte Hornets, and Toronto Raptors. His brother is professional basketball player Seth Curry. He was raised mostly in Charlotte, North Carolina, also spending time in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, while his father played in those cities.
Stephen’s parents are both African-American. His grandparents are all African-American as well. Stephen is married to Canadian-born actress Ayesha Curry, with whom he has four children.
Stephen is sometimes described as having a Haitian maternal grandparent. This is not accurate.
Stephen’s paternal grandfather is named Wardell Curry (the son of Blanch Perline Curry).
Stephen’s paternal grandmother is named Juanita Marian/Marion Leitch/Gaines Casey (the daughter of Eugenia Marian Gaines).
Stephen’s maternal grandfather is Cleive Ester Adams (the son of Cleive Ester Adams and Bertha Blanche Arrington). Stephen’s great-grandfather Cleive was the son of Jonnie Lee Adams and Mattie Annie Taylor. Bertha possibly was the daughter of John Arrington and Ruby Tyree.
Stephen’s maternal grandmother is Candy Ann Wyms (the daughter of Walter Leonard Wyms and Evelyn Katherine Snell). Walter was the son of Judge Paul Wyms and Virginia Belle Hines. Evelyn was the daughter of Archie Newbern Snell and Gertrude Katherine Hubbard. You guys crack me up about what Africans can’t have. Just because you haven’t seen something , doesn’t make it untrue. Africans have the same genes everybody else has. Everyone had brown eyes at first. The first people to have blue eyes most likely were black. Seeing how the pale skin mutation is only about 5-7000yrs old, and blues have been around 10k yrs
There are native Africans with green eye , it’s been shown on here before. It’s rare mutation like anything else. Two Nigerians rappers are known for their green eyes (phyno and Lemar), as far I seen, full Africans
Next one form common in Cameroon is the condition known as Waardenberg Syndrome, However there are other forms of ocular albinism that just give you the eye color.
Would pls get this through your skull. African American is a cultural NAME. It is not a SKIN COLOR. The avg AA’s is part white, big DEAL
@Fuzzybear they know the real truth the bad comments are just people who are jealous of black African diversity in the Americas or they want to feel whiter than they are. Many people on this board have racial identity issues. I am just here to help educate people on who is black and I feel I have to keep re-appearing just to school people because its a shame alot of people do not know anything about black diversity and African history including the slave trade.

Africans are diverse it’s true but African Americans are of mostly West African descent and a little Central African ancestry because that’s where the slaves came from. So yeah, Steph Curry looks the way he does because of multigenerational mixing with European.
And yes some West Africans have light eyes but these West Africans also have Middle Eastern dna and North African dna such as the Fulani. When Fulani people mix with White people, their children are very light skinned and look almost Arab because of that mixed dna

@Neiltenant Most African Americans and Afro Carribeans are mixed 2% up to-20% but they are majority Subsaharan black African in DNA that is why we are called African Americans. We are Majority Africans living in the Americas. Its a simple fact. Why do people act so uneducated and racist????? against anything or anyone African its beyond me. YES there are 100% Africans with greene eyes just google it. All humans came out of Africa so Africans have every feature on earth. You can just google this information. Supermodel African American Tyra Banks has green eyes and she is only like 3% white European.

He is of mixed heritage. You can see it in his parents, as well. So it’s not accurate to simplify him and call him “African American”.
Okay one more time, African American does not mean black. It is the Cultural name/ Ethnicity for the people of full/ or partial African Ancestry in the U.S.. Everyone knows that we are mixed-bloods, it’s kinda expected. If you look at the avg AA dna results, you’ll see that. Euro levels at (21,26, 29, 35, 40 etc) . Should we stop calling people with these levels African American to? Plus from what I understand, Steph calls himself African American, I know his sister does for sure

I know, I know. It’s just, maybe it’s a non-US thing but, I feel all these African-Americans are being done a disservice by being amounted to just ‘African American’ without explicit details of what is actually entailed in their mixed ethnicity.

Based on your other comments, I’m going to take it you meant no insult. However your comment makes it seem as if there’s something wrong with being just African American. Mexicans can have multiple ethnic combos in them, but are happy just to be called Mexican(nobody says anything that). Tell this to a Puerto Rican, that it’s a disservice to just be called a Puerto Rican(without knowing their breakdown), or a Dominican, or any other mixed group, and watch the response. What if we didn’t have the DNA, would it still be a disservice to be called AA?
Now you say a disservice. To whom are you speaking of? Are you referring to the possible European contributors to our bloodlines? Because I can tell you with pretty good confidence, that a lot of these European contributions, didn’t come by in a happy way(at least not for the black person).
Are you saying that we are doing a disservice to people who would walk into a slaves house, make the black man stand outside, while he did what he wanted to with the black mans woman.
A disservice , to white men who would hide in the woods, forcing our black women to walk in groups and carry weapons, just to keep from being RAPED. My mother blames herself to this day, because she left work early, and her friend had to walk home by herself. She took a shortcut, and was caught by two white men who raped her. She told my mother, that she remember begging them to just not kill her.
A disservice to white men, who up into the 1960’s had it in their minds, that they could still come into a Black families house. Have their way with the Black woman or her daughters, and the Laws did nothing about it.
A disservice to people who used our black babies as (Alligator Bait), which they really did do. Or the skin from an African American for leather shoes and handbags
A disservice to people who up into 1960, almost hundred years after slavery officially ended, still had working slave plantations( with slaves on them). Even I didn’t know that.

This is why you don’t hear old black people talking about those happy days growing up, in the Jim crow era.
I’m not saying Stephen family went through this, but a lot of other families did. So if you’re just looking for clarity on his Background, I can understand that, but we are not doing a disservice to anybody by calling ourselves just African Americans

Most of us take great pride in our African ancestry, which is why it’s the word ( African ) is included in our cultural name

True we are not Africans anymore, but on the avg, the majority of our ancestry comes from there. Also while some AA’s are mostly Europeans( from centuries of mixing), The majority are mostly African in ancestry.

First of all , from what I can see, I never commented on what Curry looked like, also I never said he wasn’t of mixed heritage either. Now that being said, Would please try to learn something. Mostly all African Americans are mixed-bloods. So saying Curry is probably mixed, is like saying the ocean is probably wet. It’s been proven a number of times on here, that you can’t go by our outside appearance. I’ve personally have shown it a dozen times, it doesn’t work with us like that. We see ourselves as black people . despite what you want to call us. I get it, your Europeans families all look the same, but that’s not how it is here. My family reunion was like a rainbow coalition ,We have a huge range of color and traits.
