Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was the fifth Emir of Kuwait, and the Commander of the Kuwait Military Forces, both from 29 January, 2006 to September 29, 2020.

Sabah’s father, Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, was the Sheikh of Kuwait, from 29 March, 1921 to 29 January, 1950, his death. Sabah’s mother, Munira Al-Ayyar, was from Al Jahra. Sabah was married to Fatuwah bint Salman Al-Sabah, until her death, with whom he had four children.

Sabah’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his sixth great-grandfahther, Jaber bin Salman bin Ahmad.

Sabah’s paternal grandfather was Jaber II Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah (the son of Mubarak bin Sabah Al-Sabah and Shekha bint Duaij Al-Sabah). Jaber II was born in the Sheikhdom of Kuwait, and was Ruler of Kuwait, from 28 November, 1915 to 5 February, 1917. Mubarak was the son of Sabah II bin Jaber Al-Sabah and Lulwa bint Muhammad Al-Thaqib. Shekha was the daughter of Duaij bin Jabir Al-‘Ali Al-Sabah and Asma bint Salman Al-Sabah.

Sabah’s paternal grandmother was Shekha bint Abdullah II Al-Sabah (the daughter of Abdullah II Sabah II Al-Jabir I Al-Sabah and Latifa bint Jasim). Abdullah was the son of Sabah II bin Jaber Al-Sabah and Fatma bint Salim Al-Jarrah, making Mubarak and Abdullah half-brothers. Latifa was the daughter of Jasim bin Sulaiman.
