Robert Preston was an American actor and singer. His roles include originating The Music Man on both film and stage, as well as the films Typhoon, This Gun for Hire, Variety Girl, Blood on the Moon, Face to Face, How the West Was Won, Junior Bonner, Mame, S.O.B., Victor/Victoria, and The Last Starfighter.

He was the son of Ruth L. (Rea) and Frank Wesley Meservey, who was a garment worker and billing clerk. He was married to actress Catherine Craig, until his death.

Robert’s paternal grandfather was Wesley D. Meservey (the son of Alonzo Meservey and Priscilla P. Simmons). Wesley was born in Appleton, Knox, Maine. Priscilla was the daughter of Oliver Simmons IV and Belinda Pease.

Robert’s paternal grandmother was named Isabella Ross (the daughter of John Ross and Margaret). Isabella was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Robert’s maternal grandfather was named John Rea.

Robert’s maternal grandmother was named Agnes Hayes.
