R. L. Stine is an American novelist, short story writer, television producer, screenwriter, and executive editor. He has also been credited as Jovial Bob Stine and Eric Affabee. He is known for his Goosebumps and Fear Street books, among many others.

He is the son of Anne (Feinstein) and Lewis Stine, a shipping clerk. R. L. is married to editor and writer Jane Waldhorn, with whom he has a son. Jane is also Jewish.
