Martin Landau was an American film and television actor. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Ed Wood (1994).

Martin was the son of Selma (Buchman) and Morris Landau. His father was born in Chortkiv, Ukraine, to a Jewish family. His mother was born in New York, of Russian Jewish descent. With his former wife, actress Barbara Bain, Martin’s daughters are producer, writer, and director Susan Landau Finch and actress Juliet Landau.

Martin’s father smuggled Jews out of Europe during World War II.

Martin’s paternal grandfather was Nathan Landau (the son of Kalman/Kalmann Landau and Beile Rachel). Nathan was born in Horodenka, Horodenkivs’kyi district, Ivano-Frankivs’ka oblast, Ukraine, then in Austrian Galicia, to parents from Chortkiv.

Martin’s paternal grandmother was named Rose/Regina/Baba/Rebecca Hinda Goldeck/Goldrich/Goldik/Zuckerman. Rose was born in Austrian Galicia.

Martin’s maternal grandfather was James/Jacob Harris Buchman/Buchmann (the son of Hersch Buchman and Eva Schlachter). James was born in Russia or Germany.

Martin’s maternal grandmother was Berthe/Bertha Scheuer (the daughter of Sigmund Scheuer and Esther Meyer). Berthe was born in New York, to parents from Germany. Esther was the daughter of Wolf Meyer.
