Peter Garrett is an Australian musician, environmentalist, activist, former politician. He is the lead singer of the Australian rock band Midnight Oil. He was a Member of the Australian Parliament for Kingsford Smith, from 9 October, 2004 to 5 August, 2013, Minister for Environment Protection, Heritage and the Arts, from 3 December, 2007 to 14 September, 2010, and Minister for School Education, Early Childhood and Youth, from 14 September, 2010 to 26 June, 2013.

He is married to Doris Ricono-Garrett, with whom he has three children.

Peter’s paternal grandfather was Tom Vernon Garrett (the son of Thomas William Garrett and Helen Alice Maud Applewhaite). Peter’s grandfather Tom was born in London, England. Peter’s great-grandfather Thomas was born in Wollongong, New South Wales, the son of Thomas Garrett and Mary Ann Elizabeth Creagan. Helen was the daughter of John Lythcote Applewhaite and Lucy Hannah Langdon.
