Birth Name: Nina Kamenova Dobreva

Place of Birth: Sofia, People’s Republic of Bulgaria (now Bulgaria)

Date of Birth: January 9, 1989

Ethnicity: Bulgarian

Nina Dobrev is a Canadian actress and model. She is known for starring on the series The Vampire Diaries, and in the films Dog Days, The Final Girls, and Run This Town.

Nina was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, to Bulgarian parents, Michaela (Radeva) and Konstantin Dobrev. When she was two, her family moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where she was raised. She is fluent in English, French, and Bulgarian.

A picture of Nina with her father can be seen here. A picture of Nina with her mother and brother can be seen here.

Nina once stated “I’m a Gypsy, what can I say…” It is not clear if she was referring to being of the Romani ethnic group, or to the term “gypsy” as it is sometimes used to refer to lifestyle habits. It appears that Nina often refers to herself as a “gypsy” in this latter way.

Two of Nina’s grandparents are named Aleksandr and Efi.

  2. Katz says:

She’s Bulgarian. Bulgarians are white Europeans. Not every white person has to necessarily be pasty.

And I doubt she’s a gypsy, gypsies don’t usually mix. And gypsies are originally from India, not Egypt.

Nina Dobrev isnt white i mean look at her, does she look white to you? She is gyspy a group of people that oringinated from Egypt long ago. They moved to different countries in Eastern Europe and then quickly became european. So everyone that thinks she is white is wrong…

First off, love Nina, she is beautiful.
Second, I have NEVER heard anyone say that hispanic is not a race.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but it is.
Thirdly, Nina is not asian, and deff not black. She has a pale olive skin tone which makes her look white. But I’m sure if you asked Nina what race she is, she’s not going to say white, black, or asian, she’s going to say she’s bulgarian. Oh, and she was not born in Canada, she moved there when she was two.

I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but it is not, and those who say that it is are ignorant. Alexis Bledel and Zoe Saldana are both Hispanic. They are not of the same race. You can try to prove that Hispanic is a race, but you’ll be unsuccessful and you will fail because it’s simply not one.

Last but not least, Nina is white. She will say her race is Bulgarian? Bulgarian is not a race, just like Irish, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian are not races either. They are ethnicities.

      Tara:

You are sadly mistaken and missinformed!

      1) Hispanic is not a race, ( i’ve heard plenty claim it)

      2) Nina is white, as the other person said, Bulgarian is not a race. If you ask her for her ethnicity she will obviously say Bulgarian, but if you ask her for her race she will obviously reply with ”white”

Whenever you see a beautiful white actress, singer whatever who has a tan she is immediately doubted for her race! :S I guess its the non-whites wanting her to be of their race. I mean, why else would there be an argument. And in all honestly, this always happens with the tanned whites. Its annoying. Its a stereotyoe that whites are blonde, blue eyed and pale skinned. There are many many naturally tanned whites and BTW Bulgaria is a hot country during summer and thus they may seem non-white. For me though, they look white. As for nina, she is bulgarian. She is white! And south europeans are also white. Im southeast europeans and dayemm im white! No 1 try tell me different!! People need to learn how to respect us!
