Mary Birdsong is an American actress, comedian, writer, and singer. She is known for her roles on the series Reno 911! and Succession, in the films Adventureland, Halloween II (2009), High School (2010), and The Descendants, and as a correspondent for The Daily Show and Crossballs.

She was raised on Long Beach Island, New Jersey. Regarding the origin of her surname, she has stated:

It’s not Native American. It’s German, which is way less sexy. But the original German was something like “Vogelsang.” I may be distantly related to comic John Fugelsang. And I think I might even be related to Nic[-]olas Cage. The genealogy is escaping me at the moment…

Mary’s paternal grandfather was Donald Edward Birdsong (the son of Victor Leon Birdsong and Francis May O’Sullivan). Donald was born in Mississippi. Victor was born in Mississippi, the son of George E. Birdsong and Emma F. Hutchins. Francis was born in Mississippi, to parents from Ireland, Jeremiah F. O’Sullivan and Eleanor “Ellen” Digneon.

Mary’s paternal grandmother was Hazel Kenna/Kenner (the son of Henry Watterson Kenna/Kenner and Eula Belle Schilling). Hazel was born in Mississippi. Henry was born in Mississippi, the son of William Balis Kenna and Mildred Sarah Evaline Wilson. Eula was born in Mississippi, the daughter of Ellis N. Schilling and Mary Corrine “Molly” Ellzey.

Mary’s maternal grandfather was James Levert Kimball (the son of Garner Russell Kimball and Minnie Evans). James was born in Mississippi. Garner was born in Mississippi, the son of Levert Kimball and Fannie L. Russell. Minnie was born in Mississippi, the daughter of James Sidney Evans and Chevis S. Miller.

Mary’s maternal grandmother was Mary Eleanor Tornwall (the daughter of Henry Albert Tornwall/Törnvall and Mattie Mae Johnson). Mary was born in Mississippi. Henry was born in Mississippi, the son of Pierre Alfred Tornwall, whose parents were Swedish, and of Jo Ella Farned. Mattie was born in Mississippi, the daughter of James Hughes Johnson and Mary Belle Alexander.

Some sources state that Mary’s maternal great-great-great-great-grandfather James Swofford Glass could have been the son of Tagwadihi, also known as Ta’gwadihi Glass or Thomas Glass, who was a leading Chief of the Cherokee and the last principal Chief of the Chickamauga group. This does not seem to be accurate.
