Marielle Heller is an American writer, director, and actress. She has directed the films The Diary of a Teenage Girl, Can You Ever Forgive Me?, and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, and co-starred on the series The Queen’s Gambit.

Her mother is artist and painter Annie Stiles-Heller. Her sister is comedian and actress Emily Heller. She is married to actor, comedian, writer, producer, singer, rapper, musician, and director Jorma Taccone, with whom she has two children.

Marielle’s paternal grandfather was Maurice Jack Heller (the son of Nathan Heller and Basie Teller). Maurice was born in New York, to parents from Russia and Ukraine, respectively. Nathan was the son of Jacob Heller and Minnie Kaplan. Basie was the daughter of Mayer Teller and Feige Bruh.

Marielle’s paternal grandmother was Anna/Ann Cohen (the daughter of Max Cohen and Sarah Lepovensky). Anna was born in New York, to parents from Poland and Russia, respectively.

Marielle’s maternal grandfather was William Whitfield “Bill” Stiles (the son of George Whitfield Stiles and Bessie Adela Loud). William was born in Washington, D.C. George was born in New York, the son of George Whitfield Stiles and Alice Minerva Merritt. Bessie was born in Ontario, Canada, to American parents, William Harrison Loud and Adela Rona Anderson.

Marielle’s maternal grandmother was Elizabeth Dissosway “Betty” Watson (the daughter of William George Watson and Eleanor Mackevay Dissosway). Elizabeth was born in New York. Marielle’s great-grandfather William was born in New York, to parents from Ireland, William George Watson and Susanna McDowell. Eleanor was born in New York, the daughter of Israel Fitz Randolph Dissosway and Ann/Anna B. “Annie” Baker.
