Marg Helgenberger is an American actress. She is known for her role as Catherine Willows on the series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

She is the daughter of Mary Kay, a nurse, and Hugh Helgenberger, a meat inspector. Her father had German and Irish ancestry, and her mother had German ancestry. Marg was raised in North Bend, Nebraska. She is married to actor and stunt performer Charlie Haugk. Marg has a son with her former husband, actor and SAG President, Alan Rosenberg.

Marg’s paternal grandfather was Leroy R./August Helgenberger (the son of William Ferdinand August Helgenberger and Martha Baumann). Leroy was born in Scribner, Nebraska, and all of his grandparents were German immigrants. William was the son of Ferdinand August Helgenberger and Auguste Anna Ernestine Dames, who were from Brandenburg. Martha was the daughter of August Friedrich Baumann and Bertha Emilie Auguste Kruger, who was from Grabow, Pommern.

Marg’s paternal grandmother was Margaret L. McCarthy (the daughter of Hugh E. McCarthy and Laura Lee Cope). Marg’s grandmother Margaret was born in Nebraska. Hugh was the son of John Francis McCarthy and Margaret Thompson, who were born in the U.S., both of them to Irish parents. Laura was the daughter of John L. Cope and Sarah Jane Chrisenberry, and had deep roots in the U.S., with predominantly German ancestry.

Marg’s maternal grandfather was Frederick James “Fred” Bolte (the son of John Bolte and Mary Anna Picken). Frederick was born in Snyder, Nebraska, to German parents. John was born in Gutersloh, the son of Johannes Bolte and Bernhardine Regina Driehus. Mary Anna was born in Hoxter, the daughter of Gerhard Picken and Catharina/Catherina.

Marg’s maternal grandmother was Thelma M. Hare (the daughter of Frank Hare and Barbara Langdon). Thelma was born in Nebraska. Frank was the son of John Hare/Hair and Julia Ann Sigman, and had deep roots in the U.S. Barbara was the daughter of Patrick Hugh Langdon, who was an Irish emigrant, from County Mayo, and of Mary 0’Donnell/Donnell, who was born in Pennsylvania, likely to Irish parents.

      Sean, why what did you think she was? Her name sounds distinctly German and her paternal grandmother’s maiden name McCarthy is hard to be of a different origin than Irish.
