Lou Dobbs was an American political commentator, author, television host, and conspiracy theorist. He was the host and managing editor of the television show Moneyline/Lou Dobbs Moneyline/Lou Dobbs Tonight, from 1980 to 1999, again, from 2001 to 2009, and again, from 2011 to 2021; and a host of the radio show Lou Dobbs Radio, from 2008 to 2012, and The Great America Show, from 2021 to 2024, his death. He was a network vice president of, and reporter for, CNN, working there at its inception in 1980; he later founded network CNNfn, and co-created space exploration publication Space.com. A conservative, he was known for his opposition to trade deals and immigration.

Lou was the son of Lydia Mae, a bookkeeper, and Frank Dobbs, who co-owned a propane business. He was partly raised in Rupert, Idaho. Lou was married to CNN sports anchor Debi Lee Segura, until his death, with whom he had four children. Debi was of Mexican descent.

Lou’s paternal grandfather was Stephen Jesse William Dobbs, MD (the son of James Dobbs and Mary Ann “Polly” Epperson). Stephen was born in Tennessee. Mary Ann was the daughter of Stephen Thomas Epperson and Elizabeth “Polly” Wolfe/Wolf.

Lou’s paternal grandmother was Daisy Belle Dallas (the daughter of Jabez Marshall Dallas/Dallis and Mary Jane Atwater). Daisy was born in Thomason, Georgia. Jabez was the son of J. Thomas Dallis, whose mother was Irish, and of Rebecca Miller Gullatt. Mary Jane was the daughter of The Rev. Edmond Browder Atwater and Martha Patterson Snipes.

Lou’s maternal grandfather was William Perry Hensley (the son of Augustus Curtis “Gus” Hensley and Missouri Jane/Julia Cox). William was born in Missouri. Augustus was the son of George William/Washington Barger/M. Hensley and Lauray/Laurey Matilda “Laura” Henson. Missouri was the daughter of Samuel Benton Cox and Elizabeth Wright/Ellison.

Lou’s maternal grandmother was Dora Ann Pumphrey (the daughter of Richard Toliver Pumphrey and Susannah Caroline Baker). Dora was born in Boone County, Arkansas. Richard was the son of Lewis R. Pumphrey and Eliza Reed. Susannah was the daughter of Noahdiah Levi Baker and Elizabeth A. Reeves.
