Kelis is an American singer, songwriter, and chef. In an interview, Kelis stated:
I consider myself black, although technically my mother is half-Chinese and half-Puerto Rican. My father is black.
Her name Kelis is a combination of her parents’ names, Kenneth and Iveliss. Her mother is a fashion designer and her father was a professor, jazz musician, and Pentecostal minister.
Kelis was married to photographer Mike Mora, until his death. She has a son with her former husband, recording artist, record producer, actor, and entrepreneur Nas; and two children with Mike.
Kelis’ maternal family name is Maldonado.

Wow. I am amazed of some of the comments. If one would do their research regarding the people of Puerto Rico, you would not be amazed that Kelis has very tanned skinned. The slave ship stopped in the Caribbean before coming to the US.
I’m 100% Chinese and my husband is Puerto Rican. We have two beautiful kids. Some people r just so ignorant. So what if u think some Chinese ppl r ugly. Cause u know what, our beautiful insides, outshine ur dumb ass comments. I have a nice butt (yes, butt!) and boobs. Just the way my Boricua man likes it!
I’m mixed Chinese with European,Black,and native-American background but people say I look just black.
I know a girl half Nigerian, half Phillipino who is darker than Kelis (in the photo) She has Asian eyes & gorgeous, long, very curly,healthy hair that I love.
But in this photo Kelis is a lot darker than she is, she must have just come back for a long vacation.
But google her & look at her eyes & Natural hair when she first came out & tell me you don’t see a little something?
