Jon Schmidt is an American musician, songwriter, composer, piano teacher, and author. He is a member of the music group The Piano Guys, alongside Steven Sharp Nelson.

Jon is the son of Lieselotte and Werner Schmidt. His parents were German emigrants, with his mother being from Hamburg, Germany. He and his family are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; all of his grandparents became members in Germany. He is married to Michelle, with whom he has had five children.

Jon’s maternal grandfather was Richard Rudolf Ernst Pruess (the son of Johann Christian Theodor Pruess and Frederike Marie Sophie Zinzow). Johann was the son of Johann Joachim Theodor Pruess and Christine Maria Dorothea Griem. Frederike was the daughter of Johann Joachim Heinrich Zinzow and Anna Maria Elisabeth Bahlk.

Jon’s maternal grandmother was Rosalie Erika Martha Mertens (the daughter of Karl August Mertens and Johanne Auguste Schultze). Karl was the son of Joachim Friedrich Mertens and Christine Friederike Weber. Johanne was the daughter of Carl August Kersten and Caroline Auguste Schultze.
